I am glad that you have started criticizing Israel for its malfunctioning as an independent state ("Israel's Government Deserves Moral Condemnation" by Glenn Woiceshyn, August 14, 2006).
However, Israel has lost the war not because it minimized the killing of Lebanese civilians.
Israel has lost the war because it took good taxpayers' money and turned it into a crappy army. The IDF has never won a single war ever since 1967

 (1970 - stallmate; 1973 - lose of Sinay; 1982 - stallmate; and square loses ever since).
Israel forces its civilians to pay direct taxes and to serve in the army. Yet, it turns these massive input into a very lousy output.
Applying an Objectivist standard, Israel deserves this terrible lose.
