לאחר עצמאות פורמאלית מזה שבוע ואוטונומיה עם גבולות מוכרים פחות או יותר (סכסוך גבול קיים למשל באזור של אביי) מזה כחצי עשור של דרום סודן, רציתי לבדוק האם עדכנו את מפת המדינה הצעירה בעולם בשירות גוגל מפות.
נכון לעתה, טרם עודכנה המפה (ראו תמונה למטה). זכרו זאת בפעם הבאה שגוגל ינסו לשכנע אתכם שעדכונים בזמן אמת והצגת המידע הרלוונטי ביותר הם הדבר שעומד בראש מעיינם.
מעניין, למיטב זכרוני, בעבר שורטטו גבולות חבל המריבה דארפור סמערב סודן בשירות המפות של גוגל וגם זה לא זמין כעת. היתכן וברגעים אלו ממש יושב צוות מומחים בגוגל השוקד על שרטוט הגבולות ועדכונם על המפה? או שכרגיל, אפריקה היא היבשת השחורה והנשכחת?
After a week long of formal independence and half a decade of autonomy within more or less known borders (a border dispute exists in the oil-rich region of Abyei for instance) of South Sudan, I decided to check whether Google Maps have updated the map of the world's youngest state.
At the moment, the map has not been updated yet (see image below). Bear this in mind the next time Google will try to persuade you that real time updates and showing the most relevant information are their highest priority.
Interestingly, as far as I can remember, in past Google Maps did draw the borders of the conflict region of Darfur in western Sudan and this is not available now as well. Could it be possible that right now a team of experts is drawing the maps in one of Google's offices? Or as usual, Africa is the forgotten black continent?
