it was 20 below that march day. as cold as hell, but she managed. she touched the dead tree with her pale white hand. she still watered it, every day; she knew it was useless, but couldn't help it.
it was almost the end of the winter, soon the temperature will rise, maybe they will even see a day with -1 Celsius. it was getting warmer lately, that's what kept her hope.
she decided to go in and end today's stroll. she walked along the cold, empty street until she got to her house. the temperature has warmed up by 1 degrees, but only she cared.
****************
it was 15 below. she was now getting ready for her daily stroll, it was her only way to keep her hope.
most people locked themselves up, especially the ones born after the cold, they knew no better. it has been 20 years since they last saw a temperature above zero Celsius. of course, when the cold started they were still using Fahrenheit.
when she was twelve it could reach 30 Celsius in the summer, and she would walk in short shirts. not the white undershirts of today, but colorful shirts called T-shirts. that memory was one she would always come back to. if the cold won't end till she has children, she will tell them fairy tales of ice cream, short shirts and sun, and maybe when they grow up they will have it all again, true summer.
****************
it was 5 below, and June was already close to an end. last year at this day it was seven below, the temperatures were rising. she remembered that five years ago she almost lost her hope, and then the temperatures started rising.
she opened the door and went out for her stroll, it was truly livable that day. she even saw one person out on the street, it was a rare sight. in the light of the day his skin made him look like a ghost.
****************
it was 1 below, and she was at her favorite park, she was barely wearing any outer garment she usually wore, such as her large coat. in fact, she was almost dressed as if she was inside.
it was getting warmer, who knows, maybe she will get to see true summer after all. this year was better than ever, she thought while happily strolling down the ally, it will always be a milestone in her memory, the great year of 2054. she opened the door and took a look at the thermometer. 0 degrees Celsius, she smiled. the long winter was close to an end, and true summer may come.
