One of my favourite people in the world, the female half of the Dynamic Duo, came to visit us last weekend. So I tried to play tour guide for a bit, but as those who know me might guess, I ended up being the drag along lazy guided. When she arrived she already had printed papers of What to Do in Brussels, and was already planning the itinerary for the next few days on the bus from the airport.
My tired feet, obviously degenerated from months of sitting at the living room table in front of the internet, couldn't see this coming. We went e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. Sort of. But we definitely walked a lot! And I loved every second, too! It was fun to play the tourist for a while, going to places you don't normally go in regular life, with a map in one hand and a camera in the other. We walked around Brussels, we went to the Atomium and to see Mini Europe. We went on a day trip to Amsterdam, and a day trip to Brugge. Mrs. Purple also joined us for some of that time.
And it was so nice to have her around. To be able to speak in Hebrew, and have somebody who mostly gets what I'm saying (nobody gets all of it...), in terms of connotations and associations. I remember when I first moved to England. Sometimes I just felt so tired, thinking in English all the time, and translating my humour. Not that it's like that all the time now. Mrs. Purple spent the last 6 years almost learning my language and how my mind works. She already gets the jokes from Zehu Ze, she watches Eretz Nehederet, and she's seen Halehaka at least 5 times.
Anyway, back to the Energizer Bunny. So we saw everything there is to see in Brussels, and we photographed everything there is to photograph in Amsterdam, and we took a boat ride in the canals of Brugge and ate baby crabs (well, Mrs. did, the EB kept kosher and I had some half raw meat). Every morning I woke up at the crack of dawn (well...8 AM), and at the end of every day I fell asleep exhausted.
This morning she went back home, and today - I rest.
