Learning diary

One of my teachers set as a requirement a Learning Diary. This diary will not be graded, he says, but you cannot pass if you don't hand one in. He wants us to write our starting level and our aims for this course. He wants us to write about our progress each week, the problems we encounter, what helped us, what hindered us. I can't help wonder how much he really wants to know. And why call it a diary anyway? Does he really want to know how I feel and what I think? About my studies and all that effects it? The whole truth and nothing but?

Dear diary, class was great! I love programming! I have high hopes for this class, can't wait till next week.

Dear diary, tried to do homework. Failed. Oh well, I'm sure it'll all become clearer in next week's class.

Dear diary, spent the weekend trying to figure out the latest material. Hard to do without understanding the earlier material. Couldn't solve homework. Hindrance.

Dear diary, decided the other programming class was taking too much off this programming class's time and scrapped it. Helpful.

Dear diary, unfortunate class today. Teacher was vaguely comprehensible, but a girl walking past the window let slip a glimpse of her satin red bra through her button shirt. By the time my mind got back to the lesson, couldn't understand a word. Hindrance.

Dear diary, found out during class that my Toaster is having a baby. Spent next 20 minutes concentrating on not thinking about it. Hindrance.

Dear diary, couldn't get over teacher beginning every sentence with "When you..", and his tone while saying it. Had Tim Curry singing Sweet Transvestite in my head for the rest of class (and in fact, for the rest of the day). Hindrance.

Dear diary, teacher was talking too fast, couldn't follow. Hindrance. Russian in the back showed me her solution and explained it. Helpful. Teacher talked even faster, gave more homework. Walls closing in, feels like I'm drowning. Hindrance.

And so on and so forth, you get the drift.

Do you think that's what he was going for?
