Walkway through Pale Nights
Tonight's a moonless night.
My favourites nights they are.
In which I can walk through this sandy desert; at winter at least,
guided only by the endless light of the infinite suns
that shine, and some are already long gone.
They all lie, somewhere in time and so far away in space.
I remember the nights
so far from modern lights.
The way so white and clear
and the stars, astonishing,
breathtaking,
neck-killing.
I could lie underneath the velvet looking sky
until the sun should burn, beginning to turn my skin into acid
and brighten too much the light path to my eyes.
I could live in this darkness.
The stars are so beautiful.
They keep me charmed,
wondering
and small.
So small... realizing how small I am
every time I raise my sight to see this eternity
up above me
so far away
and yet touch-close.
I will reach them one day
die into the sun
and fade like them,
the non-eternal ancient masses of marvelous energy balls.
The sun lies waiting for a call.
