Everyone around are starting to show real signs of "Summer fatigue"... the hot humid days stretch on, & even though it's already mid-September, it is still as hot during the days as though it was mid-July
Everyone around me walk with long faces, minds dried to the core, telling each other the repeated mantra- "熱いですね"...wiping another bucket of sweat off their foreheads & sigh
.Everyone around me seem to be dying for the Summer to make way for cooler days of Autu
.Everyone but me ! ..I love the Summer
The hot days, light clothing, cool showers, bare feet, blue skies, ice tea, ice coffee, ice cream, BBQ in the sun...
Yes, it's hot. The Japanese humidity, feels like something right out of some crazy fairy-tale gone wrong, seriously. Yet still, I love it all
Give me sun, 356 days & watch me smile like a kid in a candy store in-between the 7 daily showers I have to take(& do so with pleasure), making sure my face stays on & doesn't melt away in the he
:)
Every year in September, Shimada's pride & joy "Mage Matsuri" takes place
Yesterday was the day, as women & girls of all ages dressed in traditional Summer Yukatas, holding
fans & most important, wearing the edo-period traditional Mage hair styles, were dancing in circles around town
Passing through to take a look at it all & not for the first time, I couldn't but not be impressed with the simple fact that in-spite of the weather, which was extra harsh yesterday, in searing heat & coated in sweat, the dance & festivities soldiered on
I took a pic here & there & went on to cooler places, but the girls of Shimada, all through the morning till the late afternoon, kept an old local tradition alive for yet another year
If you're in the neighborhood next September, make sure to pop by & check this small but extra (")cool(") festival
