אני בטוח שכולכם מכירים כבר את "מכתבי העוקץ", שנשלחים מעת לעת, ומספרים את סיפורו הטראגי של איזה בן של גנרל/מושל/מיליונר אפריקאי שמנסה להוציא מיליונים ממדינתו וזקוק לעזרתכם הנואשת (היתה גם גרסא עם סוהא עראפת, אם אני זוכר טוב).

בדרך כלל, יש שתי אפשרויות - או שהשולח מנסה להוציא מכם כסף ("שלחו כמה אלפי דולארים ותוך שבועיים יגיעו  אליכם המיליונים") או שמנסים להשתמש בכם להלבנת כספים ("צריכים פרטי חשבון בנק, הכסף יועבר אליך לשמירה, ותצטרך להעביר אותו הלאה לאחר מספר שבועות, בניכוי דמי טרחה").

במקרה הזה, שגם בפעם הראשונה (למיטב ידיעתי) מערב גם את הצונאמי מסוף שנה שעברה, לא מבקשים לא את זה ולא את זה, ועל כן נותר לי לתהות מה בדיוק הם מנסים להשיג.

פשש.. מה אני אגיד לכם, אני מיליונר ואפילו לא ידעתי את זה (וגם לא ידעתי שיש לו קרוב בשם פאטריק, שהוא בסך הכל מהנדס צנוע אבל שווה שישה וחצי מיליון דולר).

בכל מקרה, אני בדרך כלל אוהב לשחק עם אלה - אם הם מבקשים כסף, אני מבקש כסף קודם כ"הוכחה". אם הם רוצים פרטי חשבון בנק, אני נותן להם פרטי חשבון שלא קיימים או מבקש לקבל את דמי הטרחה מראש בצ'ק. לפעמים אני סתם "לא מבין מה הם רוצים" כדי לבזבז להם את הזמן.
