I read a play by David Grossmann named Riki's Kindergarten, which tells about eight children in a certain kindergarten. It's quite disturbing; half of the characters have a very problematic background, urine is mentioned too much, and the children go through some terribly disturbing events. But what was the most disturbing part was that it was very realistic. Grossmann managed to immitate their language very well (though I think he made subtle mistakes here and there), and they behaved like children really do (they fight just like real children and take games very seriously).
What was interesting to see in the play was the differences in the languages between Mizrakhi Jews (Jews whose origins are in Arabic countries) and Ashkenazi Jews (Jews whose origins are European) use. One of the girls often swears 'On the lafagod [sic; supposed to be 'Life of God'] in the Torah book', which is a very Mizrakhi trait. She said about her friend's grandmother's name, Tsila, 'What a Ashkenazi name.' Her friend's parents tell her to stay away from her, because she's 'dirty and has lice', and she naïvely thinks that she'll be able to come over once she gets clean. I was a bit disturbed to see how deep racism in Israel went even in the late 80's.
(EDIT: Spoilers removed. Deeply sorry for anyone who read them.)
Anyway, I recommend Hebrew speakers to look for it, especially those who still believe in children's innocence. (Shunra looks at the computer with a bitter smile.)
I had two good laughs recently: one when I heard about how the so-called 'Social Justice' party pretty much disappeared. The news on the radio (didn't bother checking which newscast it was) said that members of the party said that Guide-the-muck left the party 'like a child who got tired of playing with some toy and threw it away.' Feline Intervention again!
The second good laugh came when I read that Bush said he regrets starting the Second Gulf War. The article I read on Walla! wasn't very clear, and it mainly focused on other related subjects. But I stil lhad a good laugh.
It's funny to see all those great leaders lookng at what they've done and saying, 'Whoops...'
Good news, everyone! It seems HIV has a cure now! I was amazed to read the article. This truly made me relax; getting AIDS somehow is one of my biggest fears.
But more importantly (stilll, AIDS can be prevented...), this proves Evolution. A human mutated like insects and became immune to the disease almost entirely. This is, basically, what happens in Evolution. Yet it's still rather peculiar; perhaps the Deists are right? Or maybe... there is a Ceiling Cat?
Unum diem...
