from the bachs of goa to the kanals of kerala and the templetowns of tamilnadu I arrived to Mumbai in th train from Delhi and us 4 took a cab with Sami davis junior (or at last his double).
me and Alan said fairwell to Maria and Kamilla who flew back hom and went to aurangabad to se the lora cavs.
th cavs are really amazing and big! we got back the same night to
Mumbai. Alan took a ferry to south Maharashtra bachs and I met up with
Micah, the kiwi guy I was trekking with in Ladakh. then I went to Goa
to meet the polish girls (also from Ladakh) and staied there 3 days.
the town Panaji is very portugese and clean, but very xpensive so I
took of to Anjuna beach and run into the polish while stroling on the
beach in time for sunset.
I enoyed the beach, and the famous flea market, where old hipies try to sell products to Russions tourists in double price.
I got the night train from Margao to Kochi (Kuchin) and took the ferry
to the island. wellcome to Krala, I thought. Kochi is very colonial,
look like portugal and have a jewish sinagoge and a dutch palace. 2.5
days was enaugh to admire the city and the mainland city of Ernakulam.
a bus brought me to quiet Kerala laid back towns and small villages
near the Malabar coast. the Keralish maid kanals between the lakes and
rivers for irigation and transport between the villages and now
tourists like me can take boat trips in the kanals.
my first station was Allepei which is a little town. a ferry took me to
Kottayam where I stay in a family hous for two days and saw many birds
between the so many tropical trees (coconuts, mango,
pineapple, buttlenutts, and more). I visited a elephant reserve n the
mountains
and had back in the ferry to allepey. I seen many birds in the water and the ferry ride was magnificant.
another cruise took me after 8 hours to Kollam and another boat inside
the small kanals in monrue island finished the kerala backwater for me.
my next station in my way on the west coast of south India was my last...KanyaKumari, the southes tip of India.
it was windy and very interesting to be sourunded by the ocans in 3
directions and I was lucky enaugh to see the full moon rising just one
hour after the sunset.
a 9 hours bus the next morning took me to Rameshweram, a place which is
as close as you get to Sri Lanka and a place where Rama fought against
the evil Ravana (its all in the Ramayana) .
the temple is very old and imprsive but one pillar was coverd.
aparntly all tamil nadu temples are covered for repaintings and
maintanance every 12 yars and I was unlucky enaugh to come in that year.
In Rameshwarem I met a couple of english and we went to adam bridge-
amass of reaf islands conecting India and sri lanka (and rama jumped
between the islands to get to srilanka). it was long and hot and I got
burnt and forgot to put sunscreen.
now Im in Madurai, in the east coast in tamilnadu. the temple is
covered but the inside is magnificant. I decided to skip other temple
towns in tamilnadu and instead I will inland in to the mountains
called the western ghats and they quite cool (almost 2000 m high)
