I've always found the 1940s a curious time in human age. I love how tender the culture seemed back then, especially that sweet scent of innocence the music used to reflect. Everything seemed somewhat more optimistic, yet less breached. People were more curious, but also very careful and hesitant. What I love most about the 1940s, was how this entire illusion of innocence, conservatism, and oblivious optimism, used to exist in the forefront of terrible human endeavors. I love how you could dance the Charleston while beating on a negro in the back of the club. I love how you could smoke a cigar and listen to Jazz, while hearing your Jewish neighbor being dragged to his death by Nazi officers. I also love how men used to love women, and how women used to smile to the biggest gentleman around, and have that same gentleman smash their face in a few years, and a couple of children later. I love the 1940s, because they were so beautiful and tender. But you know, I guess the reason modern times are so fucked up, is because we now realize the truth about everything and don't bother to hide it. So maybe, instead of having them white folks dance the Charleston while Negros die, and instead of having those beautiful German people try and create a wonderful, blonde-blue-eyed race while Jews are being exterminated, It's much better how things are nowadays – Fucked up, but equally.
