It rained today. Out of the blue, out of the intense Israeli summer heat, it just started to pour. Feck it, winter always returns dreadful memories to me. I have strong winter depressions which render me disfunctional.
Yet it was quite beautiful, and rather soothing... It is every year, but this time I wasn’t struck with flashbacks. I hope it’ll be different this year.
Anyway, here’s a poem for the lot of you. (The supposed guests are busy conversing with one another and do not note my presence.)
Coda: l’estate che parte
O Summer, rememberest thou?
Thou embrac’d’st every square inch of land.
Vivaldi’s concerto was grand:
It defin’d what thou wast with such power...
O Summer, hast thou seen the cats?
They all idly walked in the streets.
When one did another cat meet,
They just hiss’d; it was ended with that.
O Summer, how stay’d’st thou so strong?
Aye, it seem’d thou art never to end.
Yet nothing can this shot’s wounds mend:
Ah, adieu, thou fierce season, so long!
An Cat Dubh, 26.9.08
(EDIT: Added a link with the same performance I grew up on. At least I think it is. It describes the last summer so perfectly!)
