How're you doin'? How's everything back home?
I am FANTASTIC. A bit tired (but yeah, we didn't come here to sleep), still a bit jet lagged (what else is new), and really happy and excited. I've had such an insane day yesterday (although it definitely wasn't as insane as last year), and I just wanted to share a bit with you.
I know you're not really into Stargate (did you watch the episodes I brought you?), so I'm not gonna talk much about the panels and everything, because, well, they're mainly about Stargate (surprising, right?). I'm gonna tell you a bit about the convention itself, though, and about that wonderful feeling of being surrounded with people who love the same things you do.
Do you remember that after we got back from FedCon I told you it's wonderful to be surrounded with all these geeks? Well, in some aspects, it's even better here. It's a much, much small convention, but that's exactly what makes it so special. I told you once that the great thing about the smaller conventions (although I wouldn't quite tag Creation's cons as small...) is that you get to interact with people. I still think so, especially after coming to FedCon.
You see, yesterday I got a chance to talk to a few people. We stood in line and I started talking to someone (later we found out we already know each other from twitter), and on Thursday I met a friend I met two years ago in a convention, and met a few more really nice people, and just a few minutes ago someone walked up to me and asked me what she was dressed as (RODNEY!). The thing about FedCon is that you easily get lost inside the crowd, the lines are moving really fast and there's no chance to actually talk to someone for more than a few minutes. And here... here you get to experience the full Geek Experience - not just being surrounded by geeks like yourself, but also talking to geeks like yourself, who make you feel at home the way you could never feel anywhere else.
And you know, I got to run into two of the guests in the elevators (being in the convention hotel rules). We didn't get to talk much, but I asked them about their flights and everything, and it was all so natural, and casual, and... relaxed. And you know, I never did that. I never could do this. Even when I met both of them in Israel, in private meetings, I could barely talk to them. And all of a sudden, I'm all so natural... I was simply amazed. (Mom actually didn't recognize the first, so she thought he was my friend or something, 'cause we met a lot of them.)
And you know, it's just... amazing.
And it wouldn't have happened without you.
Man, I wish I could take you to a convention myself. I wish I could see how you're enjoying this, because I know you would.
So, ah, anyway - just wanted to tell you this. We had some panels, autographs and photo ops, we walked into the vendors room and got some stuff, I'm thinking about buying more autographs... You know, convention. But it's simply amazing to be here in a completely different mood, and with all this confidence all of a sudden. I thought to myself that meeting Michael here would be a closure, so to speak, because he's partly responsible for us talking, but I didn't realize this entire convention is somewhat of a closure.
Amazing, huh?
Ann.
